Six people have been arrested in connection with the robbery of an auto train at Hakimpur in Dinajpur. The police said that the accused planned the robbery while sitting in jail.
Superintendent of Police Shah Iftekhar Ahmed presented this information in a press conference at the conference room of Dinajpur Police Superintendent’s office on Thursday (February 22).
Earlier on February 1, a night watchman was tied up and robbed at Ganesh Prasad Sahar United Rice Mill in Basudebpur area of Hakimpur upazila.
According to the police, the six arrested are members of the inter-district robbery gang. A group of 10 robbers committed this incident. An operation is underway to arrest the rest.
The arrested are Abdur Rahim alias Pora Rahim (68) of Karimullapur village of Dinajpur Sadar upazila, Shami alias Pawan (40) of sub-city block number 6, Abdus Sohag (34) of Kasba area, Bakul Hossain (50) of Sheikhpura Nimnagar area, Faridul Islam of Bhavki village of Chirirbandar upazila. alias Machua (45) and Alim Hossain (40) of Madhya Basudebpur village of Hakimpur upazila.
On February 15, a night watchman was tied up and robbed at Ganesh Prasad Sahar United Rice Mill in Basudebpur area of Hakimpur upazila around 3:30 am. In this incident, the owner of the mill filed a case as plaintiff on February 17. After the case, Hakimpur, Dinajpur, Kotwali and DB police started a joint operation. In the operation, six members of dakat from different upazilas of the district were arrested.
Superintendent of Police said that Abdur Rahim was the leader in this robbery incident. While in jail he met another dacoit Alim Hossain. Alim Hossain’s house is in Hakimpur. From him, Abdur Rahim came to know about the money of that rice mill and planned the robbery while sitting in jail. After coming out of jail, they formed a gang of 10 robbers and attacked them.
It was also informed in the press conference that there are five cases against Abdur Rahim, 14 against Shamim, 10 against Abdus Sohag, one against Alim Hossain and one against Faridul Islam.
