Photographs of the British quartet The Beatles playing at The Cavern club in their hometown of Liverpool have been found and displayed to the public for the first time.

The images were taken in July 1961, about a year before the famous British band released their debut song “Love Me Do.”

In these photos you can see John Lennon and Paul McCartney at the microphone, George Harrison on guitar and Pete Best, the group’s original drummer.

Beatles historian Mark Lewishoh comments that “taken inside Liverpool’s Cavern club, these previously unseen photos capture the Beatles playing to a lunchtime or afternoon audience in July 1961.”

«Just arrived from Hamburg, where they played for 500 hours in 90 days. “The Beatles are these very thin, underfed kids, aged 20 (John), 19 (Paul and Pete) and 18 (George),” he says.

Lewishoh says that “although that marathon (of concerts) left them slim, it seems like their heads don’t fit their bodies. An image emphasized by the unusual clothing of leather pants and cotton T-shirts. In no other photo can you see them dressed like that.

«Three months later, John and Paul went to Paris and came back with what was called the Beatles haircut. Days later, Brian Epstein saw the Beatles playing at The Cavern, offered them to be his manager and take them on a path that changed our world,” he recalls.
