New Delhi (Vishvas News). Voting for the first phase of Lok Sabha elections 2024 has been completed on 19 April. Since then, a picture is going viral on social media, in which a woman wearing a saree can be seen among women wearing burqa at the polling booth. Users are claiming that this photo was taken during the voting in this general election.

Vishvas News in its investigation found that the viral photo was taken in Varanasi during the 2022 assembly elections. And now this old picture is being shared with the intention of spreading propaganda.

What is there in the viral post?

While sharing the viral post on April 21, a Facebook user wrote, “It is very hot outside… A Hindu is sleeping in the room with the A/C on, the consequences will be dire!”

investigation

Starting our investigation, first of all we searched the viral picture through Google Lens. During search, we found this photo in an article published on the website of Live Hindustan. In this article published on March 9, 2022, information related to the assembly elections held in 2022 is given.

Based on this, we proceeded with our investigation and searched the picture with the help of Google Time tool. During search, we found this picture in the news published on Reuters website on March 7, 2022. According to the information given with the photo here, “Voters stand in a queue to cast their votes at a polling booth during the last phase of Varanasi assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh on March 7, 2022. This picture of Reuters was taken by Adnan Abidi.”

According to Dainik Jagran’s April 19 news, ‘On an average, about 60 percent voting took place on 102 seats in the first phase. Among these, the highest voting took place in Tripura at about 80 percent and West Bengal at about 77 percent, while the lowest voting took place in Bihar at about 47 percent. Voting was 57.61 percent in Uttar Pradesh, 53.64 percent in Uttarakhand and about 63 percent in Chhattisgarh.

For confirmation about the viral photo, we contacted Pramod Yadav, Chief Reporter of Dainik Jagran Varanasi, who also confirmed that the photo is an old photo of Varanasi.

In social scanning of Facebook users who share misleading posts, we found that posts related to a particular ideology are shared by the users.
