On the threshold of the 109th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, Turkish President Erdogan called on Armenia to abandon “groundless memories” and act according to the logic of the newly established order in the region, developing a road map for the normalization of relations with Turkey.

At the same time, Erdogan noted that the window of opportunity will not be open endlessly and called on Armenia to use the moment, because it is open. This is essentially blackmail, because at least the question arises as to what will happen if the “window” is closed. Will Turkey adopt a forceful policy towards Armenia, even through Azerbaijan? Erdogan’s statement is essentially an organic continuation of the statement that Andranik Kocharyan, the Chairman of the National Defense Affairs Committee, made a few days ago, causing a strong public reaction.

We are talking about questioning the number of 1.5 million victims of the genocide, which was not directly stated, but it was announced that Nikol Pashinyan has a goal to compile a list of victims name by name, so that we have “real” grounds. It actually turns out that what we have today is not “real”. And here, Erdogan’s wording to give up “groundless memories” immediately follows. At the same time, the President of Turkey actually calls on Yerevan to present successive concrete steps, a “road map” of how the issue will be resolved in a more “fundamental” way.

Will Nikol Pashinyan talk about the “map” in his address on the occasion of April 24, which will essentially be a response to Erdogan? Will it include, for example, a proposal to jointly examine the history, which at least logically follows from the statement made by Kocharyan a few days ago, at least for the simple reason that a huge part of the archival materials related to the genocide is at the disposal of Turkey?
