Vienna (OTS) – “ORF III Theme Monday” about the perfect garden
In keeping with the awakening of spring, the “ORF III Theme Monday” on March 11th is dedicated to tips and tricks for the green paradise at home:
The garden should be beautiful, easy to care for and sustainable. But can that also be reconciled? The new production “The Perfect Garden with Johannes Käfer” (8:15 p.m.) shows how all of this can work – and also how best to grow vegetables on hot Viennese roof terraces. This is followed by “The Garden Tricks” (9:05 p.m.), “The Garden Project: Making New from Old” (9:55 p.m.) and “Sustainability in the Garden” (10:30 p.m.).
Premiere for the third part of “Viennese Lifestyle: Dumplings, Goulash, Mazzes”
The “ORF III Cultural Tuesday” on March 12th presents the final part of the new “Erbe Österreich” trilogy “Viennese Lifestyle: Dumplings, Goulash, Mazzes” (8:15 p.m.). The film explores, among other things, the oriental influences on the development of Viennese cuisine and everyday culture. Where the Ottomans’ tent camp once stood, you can now find Neubuilding Castle – the only Mannerist castle north of the Alps. The turrets along the castle wall were designed in Ottoman style in honor of Sultan Süleyman. After all, diplomacy is a dynamic industry and the economic and strategic relations between the Habsburgs and the Ottomans continued to flourish despite everything. The documentary also sheds light on the influence of Italy and the legend surrounding Emperor Franz Joseph and the Krainer sausage. Afterwards, the final episodes of the three-part series “Viennese Grätzelstories – from Kagran to Strebersdorf” (9:05 p.m.) and “Vienna as it once was” (9:55 p.m.) are also on the program.
New documentaries in “Heimat Österreich” and “Landleben”; Start of “Werner Gruber’s Experimental Kitchen”
On Wednesday, March 13th, “Heimat Österreich” takes the new production “Vom Murtal to Zirbenland” (8:15 p.m.) to the 40-kilometer-long Liesing valley in Styria. The journey continues with a new “Country Life” production to Upper Austria in the impressive region “An der Schlögener Schlinge” (9:05 p.m.). The impressive Danube curve also represents the largest forced river course in Europe. “Landleben” remains in the federal state with the production “Am Attersee” (9:55 p.m.). The main evening concludes with a new edition of “Werner Gruber’s Experimental Kitchen” with “From the Big Bang to the Perfect Roast Pork” (10.30 p.m.). The renowned physicist and passionate cook explores the boundaries between science and taste in an entertaining way and embarks on a breathtaking journey from the Big Bang to the origin of life.
“MERYN on Monday”, “treffpunkt medizin” on Wednesday
Sneezing, itchy or watery eyes and breathing problems are just some of the symptoms that are currently plaguing many allergy sufferers in Austria. “MERYN am Montag” (6:45 p.m.) on March 11th is dedicated to the widespread problem of pollen allergies. According to estimates, around 1.5 million people in Austria struggle with this. This can be successfully treated through so-called hyposensitization. What causes a pollen allergy? And what can be done to minimize the loss of quality of life? ORF health expert Siegfried Meryn and Petra Zieglmayer, ENT specialist and allergist as well as lecturer at the Karl Landsteiner Private University in Krems, answer the audience’s questions. “treffpunkt medizin” explores “How colors control our body” on Wednesday, March 13th in “Elixir of Life Light” (11:15 p.m.).
“Land of the mountains”: “Water – the clear gold of the mountains” and “Vienna Woods hiking paradise”
On a journey past thundering waterfalls and idyllic mountain lakes, the wet element takes center stage in this new production of “Land der Berge” on Thursday, March 14th. “Water – The clear gold of the mountains” (8:15 p.m.) shows not only the targeted use of water by humans, but also the unadulterated beauty and power of the element in all its forms – from quiet mountain lakes and majestic waterfalls to the untamed forces of the flood. “Wanderparadies Wienerwald” (9:05 p.m.) then focuses on the local mountains around the federal capital and leads from Klosterneuburg in the northwest of Vienna towards the southwest to Baden and Mödling.
“zeit.geschichte” Saturday dedicated to the history and political present of Russia
On Saturday, March 16th, ORF III will show the new “zeit.geschichte” production “Putin’s Propaganda Machine – The Manipulated People” (8:15 p.m.). The Kremlin controls the mood in the country with censorship, disinformation and massive pressure on dissidents in Russia. Since the attack against Ukraine, the leveling off has intensified. Children and young people are also trained to be loyal to the regime, for example in a museum in Moscow the “atrocities of NATO” are presented and school classes are led through the exhibition. Kremlin propagandist Vladimir Solovyov, whose TV show reaches millions of Russian households every evening, also has his say. The documentary provides insight into how the Kremlin systematically controls nationalist opinion in the country. The historical roots of the conflict are then examined in the three-part documentary “Russia’s Wars”: “Tsarist Empire” (9 p.m.), “Soviet Union” (9:55 p.m.) and “Putin” (10:50 p.m.). Finally follows “The Duel – Zelenskyj against Putin” (11.45 p.m.).
Happy Birthday Katharina Straßer & Peter Kraus! Highlights in “Thursday Night” and “Filmschatz Austria”
On the occasion of Katharina Straßer’s 40th birthday, “Thursday Night” presents a new edition of the pop culture discussion format “On the Red Chair” (11 p.m.) on March 14th, in which the actress, singer and cabaret artist takes a seat with host Bernhard Egger – He is also a drummer in Straßer’s band: the best conditions for a particularly personal conversation. ORF III will then show a 2015 episode of the musical talk series “DENK mit KULTUR” (12:05 a.m.), in which dialect singer Birgit Denk welcomes Katharina Straßer and musician Julian le Play. Afterwards, “Vienna Brut and Katharina Straßer: What would Vienna be without the Viennese – a homage to Hugo Wiener” is on the program in “Soundcheck Austria” (12:55 a.m.). The start of “Thursday Night” is “Gery Seidl: Congratulations!” (9:55 p.m.). On Friday, March 15th, ORF III will honor another audience favorite, Peter Kraus, and will first show the portrait “Peter Kraus – Always in Motion” from 2019 on his 85th birthday (9:05 p.m.). The film highlights “Always the Cyclists” (10:10 p.m.) and “When Conny with Peter” (11:45 p.m.) can then be seen as part of the “Film Treasure Austria” section. Also on Sunday, March 17th, ORF III will be showing productions with the jubilee: In addition to Dacapos from the previous day, there will be “Conny and Peter make music” (3:30 p.m.), “Everybody loves Peter” (5:00 p.m.) and “Operetta itself who can The ice revue film “The Great Freestyle” (6.35 p.m.) is on the schedule.
Classic on Sunday: “Musical & Stars: An Evening with Sylvester Levay”
It’s “Curtain Raise” again on Sunday at 8:15 p.m. in “Experience Stage” with “Musical & Stars: An Evening with Sylvester Levay”. Levay penned musical hits such as “Elisabeth”, “Mozart!”, “Rebecca” and many more. Under the motto “From Austria to the World”, audience favorites such as Annemieke van Dam, Mark Seibert, Nienke Latten and Drew Sarich sing the most beautiful numbers from Levay’s pieces with piano accompaniment in the state rooms of the Federal Chancellery. The program also includes excerpts from “Beethoven,” which did not premiere until 2023.
