One person died and nine were injured in a shooting near Kansas City’s Union Station, during celebrations for the Kansas City Chiefs’ Super Bowl victory.

A shooting left at least one dead and nine injured in Kansas City, in the state of Missouri, during celebrations for the Kansas City Chiefs’ victory in the Super Bowl, the final of the North American football league.

According to the city’s fire battalion chief, Michael Hopkins, cited by ABC News, three of the injured are in critical condition, five others are in serious condition and one of the people is not at risk of death.

On the social network X, the Kansas City police indicated that the shooting took place near the city’s Union Station, a train station that also houses theaters, museums and other attractions.

According to local authorities, two people who were armed were detained.

“Anyone in the vicinity should leave the area as quickly and safely as possible to facilitate the treatment of victims of the shooting. Please avoid the Union Station parking lot area to allow emergency responders to pass through,” police also advised.

In videos circulating on social media, it is possible to see the police running towards the scene of the shooting and Kansas City Chiefs fans fleeing.

Around 1 million people were expected at the celebration, for which 600 police officers were mobilized.
