North Korea sent 600 more balloons carrying garbage to South Korea. South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff said on Sunday (June 2) that Pyongyang took such steps to annoy Seoul. British news agency Reuters reported this news.
The Joint Chiefs of Staff also said that these balloons carrying garbage bags were found across the capital between 8pm on Saturday and 10am on Sunday. Garbage such as cigarette butts, paper waste, cloth and plastic were found in the garbage bags. Under the balloon were bags filled with dirt.
Meanwhile, an emergency alert has been issued in the country’s Gyeongsang and Gangwon provinces and parts of Seoul. People have been warned not to come in contact with these balloons. It is also requested to inform the police as soon as the balloon is seen.
Seoul said its military was monitoring the launch point of the balloons. Besides, the movement of balloons and collection of aerial recovery work is also going on.
North Korea also sent hundreds of balloons carrying dirt and excrement across the southern border last Wednesday. Seoul called their move dangerous.
South Korean Defense Minister Shin Won-sik met with US Defense Secretary Austin Lloyd on the sidelines of the Shangri-La Security Dialogue in Singapore on Sunday. Shin Ok tells Lloyd that the North has violated the armistice agreement by sending the balloons.
Yonhap News Agency, citing the presidential office, said that the Standing Committee of the National Security Council of South Korea will meet on Sunday afternoon to respond to these North Korean garbage balloons. The meeting will decide whether they will resume loud mic playing on the northern border in response to the balloon!
