Vienna (OTS) The new online video archive “February Fights:
On the 90th anniversary, “Contemporary Witnesses Report” examines the events in February 1934 from the perspective of contemporary witnesses. In the video archive available on ORF ON and in the ORF-TVthek (app + web), they describe in a very personal way how they experienced the events at the time and their aftermath.

Both members of the two major political camps, whose conflicts ultimately led to a violent confrontation, and, for example, have their say. B. also a medic who got involved in the fighting. In the video contributions they remember fighting in which they were directly involved, but also talk about the political upheavals and disputes between Christian Socialists and Social Democrats that ultimately led to the conflict that was ultimately fought with weapons. They also shed light on the aftermath of February 1934 and the lessons that both sides learned from the events for the construction of a democratic state after 1945.

As part of the video archive, the ORF III zeit.geschichte documentaries “Battle for Austria – February 1934:
Outbreak of Violence”, “Austria’s Road to the Chancellor’s Dictatorship” and “The Years of the Chancellor’s Dictatorship” as well as the documentary “The Bloody February 1934 – Civil War in Austria”.
The video archive compiled by the ORF’s Multimedia Archive (Jakob Steiner, Michael Liensberger, Kurt Fremder) is available on ORF ON and in the ORF-TVthek (app + web) for an unlimited period of time.
