Western military alliance Nato is considering giving 100 billion euros in military aid to Ukraine, which is fighting Russia. NATO foreign ministers are meeting in Brussels on Wednesday (April 3). Their meeting is discussing the proposal to give this fund for a period of five years. British news agency Reuters reported this news.

Diplomats say NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg’s proposal would ensure a more direct role for the alliance in coordinating Western arms deliveries to Ukraine.

The plan will be discussed at a two-day meeting to mark the 75th anniversary of NATO’s founding. The meeting will also prepare for a summit of alliance leaders in Washington in July.

After arriving in Brussels, NATO Secretary General said, we need to change the way of cooperation. In the long term, Ukraine needs to ensure reliable and predictable security cooperation. So that we don’t have to rely too much on voluntary cooperation and NATO commitments.

However, he refused to confirm anything about the amount of funds. He said, this decision will be taken in the July conference.

NATO has so far provided Kiev with non-lethal military equipment in the three-year Russia-Ukraine war. The alliance has taken such a path because of the risk of direct conflict with Russia if arms are supplied to Ukraine. However, the alliance’s member countries have provided billions of dollars worth of arms under bilateral agreements.

Diplomats say sentiment is growing within NATO to arm Ukraine. But they say it is not yet certain whether the 100 billion euro proposal will be accepted or how it will be financed. Because NATO needs the consent of 32 member countries to take any decision.
