Moscow observed a day of national mourning following the biggest attack in Russia in two decades. National flags were flown at half-mast across Russia on Sunday (March 24) to honor the victims. British news agency Reuters reported this news.

Outside Moscow, the victims are remembered with flowers in front of the 6,200-seat Crocus City Hall.

It was here on Friday that Soviet-era rock group Picnic were preparing to perform their hit song Afraid of Nothing. At least 133 people, including three children, were killed in the random shooting and explosion by four gunmen at that time. More than 150 injured.

Russian President Vladimir Putin declared a national day of mourning on Sunday in an address to the nation following the attack. He said, the entire country and the entire nation is mourning this incident.

The Islamic State (IS) militant group claimed responsibility for the attack. However, Putin claims that four gunmen are among the 11 arrested. Escaped from the concert hall and hid in the Bryansk region, about 340 kilometers southwest of Moscow.

The region borders Ukraine. Putin also claimed that Ukraine had taken measures to hide them there.

Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) said the gunmen had ties to Ukraine. They were detained near the border.

Putin called the attack an act of international terrorism.

Ukraine, however, has repeatedly denied involvement in such attacks. The White House warned Russia of a planned attack on Moscow earlier this month, US National Security Council spokeswoman Adrienne Watson said, noting that Ukraine was not involved in the attack.
