Moldova will withdraw from the treaty on conventional armed forces in Europe. this decision was approved by the country’s government. It was reported by “Interfax” agency.

Suspension of the Treaty on Conventional Armed Forces in Europe must be approved by Parliament and agreed to by the President. After that, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Moldova will inform the Netherlands, to which the contract is deposited, about such a decision.

The contract was signed by the USSR in 1990, and in 1992. post-Soviet countries have agreed on the maximum amount of military equipment they can have on their territory.

The Treaty on Conventional Armed Forces in Europe regulates the balance of armed forces between NATO and the Warsaw Pact signatories (Romania, Albania, USSR, Czechoslovakia, Poland, Germany, Hungary and Bulgaria). The basis of the treaty is a system of quantitative restrictions on conventional weapons and equipment in five main categories of the armed forces of the participating states during the period of the treaty: tanks, armored combat vehicles, artillery, attack helicopters and combat aircraft. The contract is indefinite. Participants have the right to withdraw from it, provided that all other states are informed of this decision at least 150 days in advance.

In 2023 in November, Russia also withdrew from the Treaty on Conventional Armed Forces in Europe.
