Tripoli, February 25, 2024 (Al-Anbaa Libya) – Members of the Facilities Guard in more than one location announced in simultaneous statements the closure of oil fields and ports throughout the country.

Members of the Facilities Guard said that they gave officials 10 days to respond to their demands, to no avail.

The protesters explained that their demands are for the Prime Minister to issue a decision to approve the “Petroleum Facilities Guard” administratively and financially under the National Oil Corporation, and implicitly under the Ministry of Defense.

The protesters also demanded the adoption of a similar salary scale for Oil Corporation employees, including a 67% increase, with bonuses and differences paid according to the law.

In the same context, a member of the Misrata Oil Facilities Guard said that it was decided to close the Misrata, Mellitah and Al-Jabal oil depots, and there is coordination throughout the country to “achieve the demands.”

On the other hand, a meeting was held this Sunday morning between the head of the Petroleum Facilities Guard, Brigadier General Abdul Razzaq Al-Khurmani, and the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the National Oil Corporation, Masoud Suleiman.

During which the head of the agency reviewed the difficulties and problems facing the agency’s employees and their demands for the necessity of settling their financial and administrative situations, similar to the rest of the companies affiliated with the institution.

The designated head of the corporation expressed his understanding of their demands and that they are demands that can be achieved by following official and legal channels and the necessity of protecting individuals working at various oil sites and protecting property and facilities in accordance with the competencies entrusted to the agency.
