As is tradition, the mayors of Viña del Mar are guests of honor at the Festival, usually occupying privileged places in the first rows of the Quinta Vergara, along with the contest juries. On this occasion, Ripamonti was introduced by María Luisa Godoy, one of the event’s entertainers, in a moment that caught the attention of everyone present.

However, what caught special attention was the mayor’s gesture when she stood up from her seat and displayed a large sign that she extended with her hands in front of the television cameras and the assembled public. On said poster you could clearly read: “Fire Law Now”, in a clear demand for legislative action in the face of the recent tragedy that affected the commune.

Let us remember that Viña del Mar was affected by devastating fires that left thousands of victims and more than 130 dead.

The community leader, a member of the Democratic Revolution (RD), faces a complaint for quasi-crime of homicide. “Let Ripamonti continue celebrating the Festival while Viña mourns its dead,” said the lawyer close to the UDI, Mario Zumelzu, whom Ripamonti accused of “immodest and inhuman.”

The mayor accused the lawyer of taking political advantage of the tragedy: “He has no humanity, what he is doing is completely shameful and it is a harm not only to those families, because he is taking advantage of them, but to the rest of the people around him.” shamelessly approaching to try to promise, without legal basis, responsibility to create a political controversy.”
