MEXICO CITY (apro).-The month of May is one of the most important for the music scene this year due to the celebration of different festivals and presentations, including Tecate Emblema, Afterlife, Remind GNP and Sonoramex, in addition to concerts by Bizarrap, Camilo Séptimo, Los Auténticos Decadentes, Il Divo, Jonas Brothers, Front 242 and She Past Away.

The CDMX Arena will receive Il Divo this May 2, with a renewed ensemble made up of tenors Urs Bühler (Switzerland), Sébastien Izambard (France) and David Miller (United States), as well as a new member, baritone Steven LaBrie ( USA). The Azcapotzalco mayor’s office will also host the Jonas Brothers group on May 3 and 4.

The group Accidents, a project led by musician César Cossio Ortega, is preparing a presentation on May 3 at the Lunario of the National Auditorium, celebrating the tenth anniversary of their album “Cambio de Planes.” The “Noche Nuevos Ricos” celebration is an experience that fuses dance, punk and hyper-hop in one show, bringing together Titán, Jessy Bulbo and Miki Guadamur. The event is on day 3 at the Indie Rocks Forum.

The legendary electronic group Front 242 will vibrate with their EBM style on May 3 in the West Pavilion of the Palacio de los Deportes, a special farewell show dedicated to their Mexican fans, they will also be accompanied by Front Line Assembly. On the occasion of the bicentennial of the premiere of “Symphony No. 9 in D Minor, Op. 125 Choral” by Ludwig Van Beethoven, an evening will be held on the stage of the National Auditorium on May 7. The recital will feature the Mexican Symphony Orchestra, guest choirs and soloists, under the baton of maestro Rodrigo Macías, current director of the State of Mexico Symphony Orchestra. The participating soloists are Angélica Alexandre, Alejandra Gómez, Rodrigo Garciarroyo and Tomás Castellanos, who will join a choir of 80 voices.

In a celebration show for his 20th anniversary of musical career, the Spanish singer David Bisbal will conquer the National Auditorium, taking place on May 9.

To celebrate Mother’s Day, Emmanuel and Mijares will dedicate a recital on May 10 at the National Auditorium, adding a date on the 11th. Likewise, on May 10, Los Santaneros by Pepe Bustos will be presented along with La Sonora Dinamita by Wilder Gómez at the WTC Ciudad Satélite, in the State of Mexico.

The Argentine record producer, composer and DJ, known as Bizarrap, will be seen on May 11 at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez. Also Argentine Pablo Ahmad, in a refreshing musical fusion, will perform with his Tango-Rock on the 11th at the Las Torres Theater, in the State of Mexico.

The Sonoramex Ribera del Duero festival, a musical meeting that comes from Spain with its concept, will take place on May 11 at Parque Bicentenario, featuring La Gusana Ciega, Porter, Andreew, Arde Bogotá, Barry B, Café Quijano, Disco Bahía, Dorian and Rocío Saiz, among others.

Taking a look at the festivals that take place outside of Mexico, since its first edition in 2022, the Cruel World Festival has captured attention. This 2024 it will be held on May 11 at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California, United States. The selection of bands includes Duran Duran, Blondie, Interpol, Placebo, Simple Minds, Soft Cell, The Mission UK and Zanias, to name a few.

On the other hand, on May 12 the National Auditorium will have the Rock & Roll Caravan on its stage with Enrique Guzmán, Miguel Ríos, Los Rockin Devils, Roberto Jordán, Los Teen Tops, Los Locos del Ritmo, Los Rebeldes del Rock and The Carrión Brothers. Right next to the famous Reforma Avenue venue, that same day the Lunario will host “Señoras Punk”, which is the podcast by Ileana Rodríguez “Reclu” and Amanda Escalante “Amandititita”.

The Argentine duo Koino Yokan will be visiting on the 16th in Guadalajara at the Centro Cultural Bretón, on the 17th in CDMX in Bajo Circuito and on the 18th in Xalapa at the Tierra Luna club.

The Argentine band Los Auténticos Decadentes will arrive on May 17 at the Monumental Plaza de Toros México, where they will infect their fans with their ska style, rock and tropical rhythms.

In an extra review of the festivals that take place this month in the world, the legendary Wave-Gotik-Treffen stands out, having been held since 1992. As is tradition, the city of Leipzig, Germany, is the venue for the meeting where a variety of styles converge, such as gothic rock, dark wave, deathrock, EBM, electro dark, neoclassical and medieval music, among others. This 2024 will take place from May 17 to 20, listing Amduscia, Christian Death, Diva Destruction, Editors, Frozen Plasma, Mila Mar, Miranda Sex Garden, Nitzer Ebb, Prayers, Soviet Soviet, The Cassandra Complex, Two Witches and Umbra Et Imago , to name a few.

An evening of nostalgia will cover the CDMX Arena of the Azcapotzalco mayor’s office with the show “Rock En Tu Idioma” on May 17. The explosive feminist punk rock duo from Grlwood will land on May 18 at the Indie Rocks Forum. Meanwhile, the Tex Tex will be at the Esperanza Iris City Theater on the 18th. The Finnish singer Tarja Turunen will enchant on May 19 at the Circo Volador.

A romantic evening will be hosted by Jorge “Coque” Muñiz on the 24th at the Las Torres Theater, in the State of Mexico. Meanwhile, Los Ángeles Azules by the Mejía Avante brothers will make their fans dance on May 24 and 25 at the National Auditorium.

The CDMX Arena will welcome Los Temerarios again on May 25, with their “Hasta Siempre” tour, which marks the closing of their artistic career of more than 46 years.

The Afterlife electronic music festival will take place on the 25th at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez. The public will live a multidimensional experience with the presence of 19:26, 8Kays, Massano and Cassian B2B Kevin de Vries. At the same time, two special shows will be performed in a single night, MRAK will share the act “We Don’t Follow” and Anyma will share the show “Genesys”, before joining the Tale Of Us project, being the last performance of her tour around Latin America.

The Camilo Séptimo group will please its fans with a concert at the Palacio de los Deportes on May 25. Meanwhile, El Zar will do the same on May 26 at the Lunario of the National Auditorium.

To close the month Majo Aguilar will captivate on May 31 at the Teatro Metropólitan. Meanwhile, the CDMX Arena will host Pepe Aguilar that same day. Canadian singer-songwriter Patrick Watson will be delighting his faithful on the 31st, adding dates on June 1 and 2 at the Indie Rocks Forum, joining him for the opening with November Ultra.
