French President Emmanuel Macron stated that “nothing should be ruled out”, answering the question about the possible deployment of the military of Western countries in Ukraine. This is reported by The New York Times.
After the meeting of EU leaders in Paris on the topic of providing assistance to Ukraine, Macron stressed that as a result of the negotiations, no consensus was reached on sending troops to Ukraine in an “official and approved” manner, but “everything is possible if it will be useful to achieve our goal.” According to the French president, it is necessary to make sure that “Russia does not win this war”.
This statement by Macron differs greatly from the caution shown by Western leaders, including Macron himself, in the past. They have repeatedly stated that they want to avoid the escalation of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, and have ruled out the possibility of sending troops to Ukraine.
Before the meeting in Paris, the Prime Minister of Slovakia, Robert Fizo, announced that some countries of the EU and NATO are considering the issue of sending soldiers to Ukraine, and added that he is against that idea.
The French president, however, did not mention which countries are for or against that option.
“I will not dispel the uncertainty of today’s debates by naming names,” he said. – I say that it was mentioned in the options.
Almost 30 leaders and high-ranking officials, mostly from European countries, took part in the meeting held in Paris.
Russia’s military operations in Ukraine have been ongoing for two years. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced on February 25 that 31,000 Ukrainian soldiers were killed during two years of military operations. However, according to the report of The New York Times, this number differs greatly from the US estimates, according to which the number of victims among the Ukrainian military is around 70,000.
