President Schlögel invites the Chamber of Pharmacists to discussions about comprehensive, better patient care

Vienna (OTS) In order for patients to receive comprehensive care for their everyday illnesses and health problems, they need low-threshold care close to home. “The more than 1,400 individual practices, the more than 200 group practices and the eleven primary care units that we have in Lower Austria are ideally prepared and suitable for this,” says the President of the Lower Austrian Medical Association, Dr. Harald Schlögel, firm. Very good and proven patient care also includes vaccinations, which are one of the cornerstones of medical care and one of the best preventative measures of all. Schlögel adds: “We therefore welcome all measures that lead to an increase in willingness to vaccinate and a higher vaccination rate.”

Dr. Max Wudy, vice president and chairman of the resident doctors, is a general practitioner and can only support this. He reports from his daily practice: “In my long medical career, I have not only vaccinated countless people, I have also determined the indication for the vaccination in each individual case and explained it to a doctor. Even if the sting seems to be the most important thing for the individual, medical care and responsibility are often much more important and decisive. The vaccination itself takes much less time and, in contrast to the indication and information, can also be carried out by a medically trained person.” Schlögel adds: “Whether the jab is carried out in an office, in a company, in a vaccination bus or in another facility , is not decisive, the medical history and information is particularly important for liability.”

In the interest of the patients, the Lower Austrian Medical Association is appealing to the Pharmacists’ Association to cooperate

While emotions run high at times during vaccination, another measure is easily forgotten that would also greatly improve medical care for patients. This is the delivery of urgently needed medication directly to the doctor’s office.

Schlögel therefore suggests the following: “Let us all work together to provide high-quality and best patient care, doctors and pharmacists, and let us support each other for the sake of our patients. I therefore invite the representatives of the Chamber of Pharmacists to work with us to find solutions on how we can improve vaccination rates and at the same time the supply of medication to our patients.”
