Benghazi, March 21, 2024 (Libyan News) – The month of Ramadan is a special opportunity for many families in Libya to eat various types of fish, due to their nutritional benefits. There is an increase in demand for buying fish during this blessed month, which may affect their prices at times.

Some citizens in Benghazi confirm that fish prices did not witness significant changes during the month of Ramadan compared to the days of Eid al-Fitr, as the prices of some common species ranged between (20 and 30) dinars per kilogram.

Benghazi has a coast rich in fish wealth, making it a destination for seafood lovers. We mention the most important types of fish that are popular with citizens in Benghazi:

Grouper, known as chicken locally: is one of the most famous types of fish in Libya. Its meat is distinguished by its distinctive taste and ease of cooking.

Crab: A fish with tender white flesh, rich in vitamins and minerals, suitable for cooking in various forms.

Shrimp: One of the most popular types of seafood in Benghazi. Its meat is distinguished by its delicious taste and high nutritional value.

Lobster, known locally as lobster: is one of the most expensive types of seafood. Its meat is distinguished by its distinctive taste and lack of thorns.

Octopus: One of the most famous types of seafood in Benghazi. Its meat is distinguished by its delicious taste and various cooking methods.

Squid: A type of seafood rich in protein, and it has multiple recipes for preparing it.
Mullet fish: A type of fish with tender flesh, rich in vitamins and minerals, suitable for cooking in various forms.

Sea bass: a type of fish with white flesh, rich in vitamins and minerals, suitable for cooking in various forms.

It is noted that there is an increase in the demand of citizens to buy large fish during the month of Ramadan, while they tend to buy small fish during the days of Eid al-Fitr. This is due to the desire of families to prepare rich and varied meals during the month of fasting.
