Vienna (OTS) – The Favoriten Clinic will be modernized by 2034 as part of the Vienna Health Association’s most comprehensive investment program. A new building is being built in the center of the clinic site, which will provide space for radiology, the breast health center, the interventional vascular center and administrative workstations in the coming years. The groundbreaking ceremony took place today together with city councilor Peter Hacker and those involved in the project.
The Favoriten Clinic takes another significant step towards modernization and future-oriented medical care. The foundation stone for the modernization of the Favoriten Clinic was laid in 2016 with the opening of the modern mother-child and surgical center. The mother-child and surgical center will remain in the new Favoriten clinic, but will be connected to a modern central building in which all services will be combined under one roof. WIGEV Deputy General Director Herwig Wetzlinger emphasizes the importance of this milestone: “So that we have space for a central building from 2026, the radiology department, the breast health center and parts of the administration will move to the new building. This start of construction marks the first stage on the way to a modern central clinic.”
Active participation of employees
The new building is expected to be completed in 2025 with a usable area of 1,830m² on a total of five floors. In addition to 31 office workstations for finance, the area serves as an interim solution for radiology, the breast health center and the interventional vascular center until the central building is completed. “In the process of project development and planning, the involvement of employees who are supposed to actively shape their future workplace is very important to us.”
explains Michael Lischent, the managing director of Projektentwicklungs- und Baumanagement GmbH, which implements the construction projects on behalf of the Vienna Health Association. After the above-mentioned departments have moved back to the central building, the building will be used for research and administration.
Modernization during ongoing operations
The Favoriten Clinic is being modernized during ongoing operations. Sophisticated castling plans make it possible for patient care to remain at the usual high quality throughout the entire clinic modernization. “Anyone who needs medical care in Vienna can get it in the clinics of the Vienna Health Association around the clock, 365 days a year. This will also be the case in the Favoriten clinic despite the construction site.”

Improvements for patients and employees
The new central building in the Favoriten Clinic will mean for patients: all services under one roof, shorter routes across the clinic grounds and comfortable one- or two-bed rooms. City Councilor Peter Hacker praises the Vienna Health Association’s ambitious investment program and also emphasizes the positive effects on employees: “What we are building here will bring massive improvements to the working situation for the employees. Pleasant atmosphere thanks to the structural design – lots of daylight, views of the greenery, retreat and open spaces.”
