JIRAMA: A foreign expert at the head of the recovery committee

The recovery of the JIRAMA company is among the priorities of the Rajoelina regime. At the start of the second term, load shedding is making a comeback across the country. Faced with the difficulties that the Madagascar water and electricity company is currently facing, the executive decides to use the services of a foreign expert who has proven himself in other countries. It would be Ron Weiss. An Israeli technician who allegedly led the turnaround of Rwanda’s electricity company. The country of Kagame had also gone through a period of energy access crisis, like Madagascar before. This international expert will thus be placed at the head of JIRAMA to direct the recovery committee that the State intends to set up in the coming weeks. During his visit yesterday to Toamasina, President Andry Rajoelina declared that the latter will take office next May. Ron Weiss will implement a recovery policy and will bring his experience in financial management, human resources management, technical management, but also in the promotion of renewable energies. According to the Head of State, this decision to entrust the management of JIRAMA to an Israeli expert was taken in consultation with the World Bank.

Yesterday, President Andry Rajoelina spoke publicly about mismanagement within JIRAMA. Poor management caused numerous losses, particularly financial and technical losses, according to him. The Iavoloha number one particularly pointed out the deliberate non-payment of electricity suppliers and oil tankers. However, according to the Head of State, JIRAMA earns 80 to 100 billion Ariary per month. Having succeeded in his mission to turn around the electricity company in Rwanda, the question is whether Ron Weiss will succeed in saving JIRAMA, already on the verge of bankruptcy.
