Japan will invest about 100 billion dollars in Bangladesh in the next five years, said Commerce State Minister Ahsanul Islam Titu. In addition, Korea, China, India and the European Union have made their own plans for investment in Bangladesh, said the state minister for commerce.

He said these things in a discussion meeting organized at Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) office on Wednesday (March 20). This discussion meeting was organized on the life and work of Bangabandhu. On the occasion, job fair was organized for the visually impaired and five visually impaired persons were provided employment.

State Minister Titu said that after the election on January 7, the Prime Minister made a new cabinet on the 11th. Since then, we are getting investment plans focusing on Bangladesh from where we are going in the last two months. I can talk about at least five countries with whom I have had bilateral talks at the WTO (World Trade Organization) conference in these two months.

He said that Japan is working on plans to invest about 100 billion dollars in the next five years. We signed up with them last week on a free trade agreement. We hope to have a free trade agreement with us by 2026. Korea, China, India and the European Union each have their own plans but focus on Bangladesh….

The Minister of State for Commerce said, “You know Bangladesh is not just Bangladesh.” Bangladesh is the entry point of Bay of Bengal. Bangladesh means South Asia, South East Asia. Especially in the seven landlocked states of the Seven Sisters, Japan will invest billions of dollars here. I spoke with them that day, they are eager to work.

He said, I will request those who have not gone to Matarbari… When the infrastructure of Matarbari is developed, Bangladesh, if Singapore can be Singapore because of the port, Bangladesh will open up a greater potential than Singapore in the region only through a Matarbari Deep Sea-port. You won’t believe what big infrastructure there is, how trade and commerce will grow.

He also said that today the Prime Minister is working to build Smart Bangladesh from Digital Bangladesh. I think, all of our dreams will come true when we can play a role in making Sonar Bangla as Bangabandhu’s ideal soldiers. If we do the right thing from each of us, I think Bangabandhu can build the initiative that our Prime Minister has taken to build Smart Bangladesh.
