On May 2 and 3, 2024, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) will hold the 2024 Council of Ministers Meeting, which will be led by Japan and will have Mexico and the Netherlands as vice-presidencies.

The central discussion of this meeting will be “creating together the momentum for change: leading global debates with objective and reliable approaches for sustainable and inclusive growth,” the organization said.

For the OECD, it is time to discuss the “complex and interrelated” challenges faced, such as climate change, digitalization, the aging of the population and its economic impact, as well as the challenges of the rule of law.

The meeting will be based on three pillars, such as having a diverse, inclusive and like-minded OECD; have “an economic order based on shared values” to maintain free and fair trade, which allows strengthening economic resilience.

In addition, the organization bases its work on cooperation, as a way to face emerging challenges that all countries share in order to create a better future.

The president of the Association of Banks of Mexico (ABM), Julio Carranza, said that the imminent reduction in interest rates by the Bank of Mexico (Banxico) will favor greater placement of credit in the country, boosting consumption and activity. of the companies.

“When rates go down they help people, personal loans, credit cards and company loans, since they are at a variable rate. When the interest rate starts to go down, we will immediately begin to see a situation calmer for companies and they may be encouraged to invest more. If with high rates we have managed to maintain consumption above 18%, then I would think that with lower rates consumption should continue to strengthen,” he indicated.

In an interview prior to the 87th edition of the Banking Convention, Carranza urged a national agreement between banks, companies and the government to favor Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), in which the Tax Administration Service (SAT) grant them greater facilities in paying taxes, by not collecting them immediately and involving the development bank.
