Today is the memorial day of Muhammad Amin Rasulzadeh, one of the founders of the first democratic republic in the East – Azerbaijan People’s Republic.
Publika.az reminds that M.A. Rasulzadeh was born on January 31, 1884 in Novkhani village of Baku.
In his youth, he participated in the creation of the “Hummet” organization together with social democrats. Rasulzadeh, who emigrated to Iran in 1909 after being persecuted by Tsarism, worked there for a while as the editor-in-chief of Irane-nou newspaper, and after the Mashrutah revolution was suppressed, he emigrated to Turkey.
He was accepted as a member of the Musavat Party in 1911 and four years later was elected the chairman of the Central Committee of the Musavat Party. In 1918, together with Fatali Khan Khoyski, he officially announced the establishment of the first republic in the East.
He was arrested on April 28, 1920 after the Bolshevik invasion. Soon after, on the instructions of Stalin, he was released from prison and taken to Moscow. Despite Stalin’s insistence, he refused to cooperate with the Soviet authorities and left the USSR.
M. A. Rasulzadeh died on March 6, 1955 in Ankara and was buried in Asri cemetery.
It should be noted that on December 24, 1992, the President of Azerbaijan, Abulfaz Elchibey, signed a decree “On the return to Azerbaijan of the family members of prominent social and political figure Muhammad Amin Rasulzade, who were repressed during the totalitarian Soviet regime, and on solving their social and household issues.”
On December 29, 1993, the President of Azerbaijan, Heydar Aliyev, signed a decree “On the celebration of the 110th anniversary of the birth of Mohammad Amin Rasulzadeh, a prominent socio-political figure of Azerbaijan.”
On November 22, 2013, the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev Mohammad Amin issued an order to celebrate the 130th anniversary of Rasulzadeh. According to the order, a series of jubilee events were held in the republic and outside the republic.
