Israel also rejected Hamas’ new ceasefire proposal – 2024-03-17 06:16:10

Occupying Israel has rejected a new cease-fire offer by Hamas. After the meeting with the wartime cabinet on Friday (March 15), Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that the new proposal by Hamas still has many unreasonable demands. However, he said that he will send Israeli representatives to Qatar to continue the ceasefire efforts.

In a statement, the Israeli prime minister’s office said Netanyahu supported plans for his troops to attack the Palestinian city of Rafah. Moreover, the Israeli Defense Forces are ready to attack the town of Rafah and evacuate its civilian residents.

Earlier on Friday, according to a report by the Reuters news agency, Hamas offered Israel a six-week ceasefire to stop attacks on Gaza during Ramadan. In the first phase of this ceasefire, Hamas has demanded the release of 700 to 1000 Palestinian prisoners in exchange for the release of women, children and elderly hostages. About 100 of them are sentenced to life imprisonment. In exchange for the release of Palestinian citizens imprisoned in Israel, Hamas has promised to release women, children, the elderly and the sick from among the Israeli hostages it holds.

Among the demands mentioned in the Hamas proposal are a permanent cease-fire, the withdrawal of Israeli forces from the Gaza Strip, the return of Palestinians displaced from southern Gaza to northern Gaza and the center of Gaza, and an unimpeded flow of aid.

In response to this proposal by Hamas, the Israeli Prime Minister’s Office said on Thursday (March 14) that this proposal for a cease-fire by Hamas was presented based on completely unrealistic claims. Netanyahu’s office said the proposal would later be presented to Israel’s wartime ministry.

A 40-day ceasefire was offered to Hamas in February based on the last talks held in Paris. The proposal called for the release of one Israeli hostage for every 10 Palestinian prisoners. The same ratio has been maintained in this year’s contract as well.

Israel rejected last month’s offer, saying that accepting it would mean Israel losing the war. We will continue to fight until Hamas is completely destroyed. This is our final decision.
