The umbrella organization Stadtmarketing Austria, based in Klagenfurt, also sees this transformation as an opportunity: “A reduction in the often excessive retail space can contribute to healthy diversification in city centers”

According to the recently published study by “Location + Market”, in many cases the vacant space finds new uses as offices, ordinations, restaurants, co-working spaces, etc., which in turn bring traffic to the city centers.
Proactive measures for urban quality of life
Many cities have already taken proactive steps to respond to these changes and improve the quality of life in urban areas.
