In 2023, Germany exported more electric cars than it imported, according to data from the Federal Statistical Office, cited by DPA. Exported electric cars are 786,000, and imported – 446,000.

The value of exports amounted to EUR 36 billion, and imports to EUR 14.1 billion.

The most serious importer of electric cars in Germany is China with a market share of 29 percent, followed by South Korea with only 10 percent.

The export of purely electric cars grew by as much as 58 percent during the year, and the import – by 23.5 percent.

However, only one in four cars exported from Germany is electric, while the rest have internal combustion engines. German companies produced 973,000 electric cars in 2023, or a rise of 59.9 percent, compared to 2.4 million cars with internal combustion engines, or a rise of 7.9 percent.
