Import and export through Benapole-Petrapole land port will be closed on Monday (March 25) and Bangladesh on Tuesday (March 26) due to public holiday on the occasion of Dola Yatra in India and Independence Day of Bangladesh.
Benapole C&F Agents Staff Association General Secretary Sajedur Rahman and Petrapol C&F Staff Welfare Association of India General Secretary Karthik Chakraborty confirmed the matter on Sunday (March 24).
They said that Dola Yatra or Dol Purnima is a Vaishnava festival. This spring festival is known as ‘Holi’. ‘Holi Utsav’ is celebrated as annihilation of evil forces. On Monday, C&F owners, employees, handling workers, truck drivers involved in import-export activities have returned to their respective areas due to this festival. Besides, no import-export is taking place on this route on the occasion of Independence Day in Bangladesh on Tuesday. Import-export activities will resume in full swing from Wednesday (March 27) morning.
However, the immigration authority said that passport passengers will pass through the Benapole-Petrapole check post. Although the import and export will be closed due to the public holiday on Monday, the movement of goods will continue as usual at Benapole port, including the clearance process.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Benapole Checkpost Police Immigration Kamruzzaman Biswas said that even if import-export is closed for two days on this route, the movement of passport passengers between the two countries will be normal.
Director of Benapole Land Port Rezaul Karim told Jago News that although import and export are closed on Monday, operations will continue at Benapole Customs House and port. Indian empty trucks coming to unload goods are not barred from returning to the other side. Import-export trade will continue on this route from Wednesday morning.
