Addressing the leaders and workers of Awami League, party president and prime minister Sheikh Hasina said, ‘There were many conspiracies to thwart the election.’ If the candidature was not open, the election would have been called into question and the democracy of Bangladesh would have been hijacked’.

Sheikh Hasina said these things in a special extended meeting of Awami League at Ganobhaban, the official residence of the Prime Minister on Saturday (February 10). In addition to the members of the Central Executive Committee of Awami League, the leaders of Advisory Council, National Council, Metropolitan, District, Upazila and Municipality, party and independent members of Parliament, City and Municipal Mayors, Chairman of District and Upazila Parishad as well as presidents and general secretaries of allied and fraternal organizations were present in the meeting. .

Awami League president Sheikh Hasina described the special extended meeting as a ‘reunion fair’ of party leaders after the national elections. He gave directions to Trinamool leaders regarding ‘national and international conspiracies’, ‘upcoming upazila elections’ and ‘reducing commodity prices’ around the twelfth national election.

Pointing out that the 12th election was free, fair and impartial, Sheikh Hasina said that those who want to question the election, saying that the election was not free and fair, they should clearly state that the election was not free and fair. It does not say that, it is saying that the election was not free and fair. Such things are said from some domestic-international level. Whichever country says, my question to them – how, where is the problem, they have to say.’

He said, ‘Elections have been held in many developed countries of the world, it has not yet been accepted by their opponents. Even the post-election violence has resulted in murders. But the election in Bangladesh was very fair. Public administration, armed forces, law and order forces and all those related to the election have performed their duties impartially.

Sheikh Hasina mentioned that ‘there was a conspiracy about the 12th national election’. He said, ‘Voters should not come to the center, the election should not be free, the election should not be held or after the election, they would raise questions about the election – this election was not free and fair… so ban it, give it. When we were told, will ban. Then I also said, if necessary, we will give a ban, I can also give, I said because I know the customs of the ban.’

He said, ‘Amidst so many words, we have opened this year’s election with an aim to ensure that our country is not questioned. Because at least there is an opponent, there is competition in the elections, the voters will come, they will vote according to their choice, they will give that right to the people. Today, the election cannot be questioned because it was elected that way. Many say, but are unable to actually question. All our leaders and activists should keep this in mind and remember.’

The Awami League president said about the distance created by Trinamool leaders and workers due to boats and independent candidates, “While conducting this election independently and party-wise, many people have become conflicted, various things have happened. What is done is done, now it must be forgotten. Everyone must work together. Work should be done with trust and faith in the people. If any problem arises somewhere, then we are there to solve it, the central committee will do it. But there should be no suicidal conflict between themselves. Everyone should be alert in that regard. Blame doesn’t make sense.’

At the time, he said, ‘If this election was not open, then not only the election would be questioned, but the democracy of Bangladesh would have been hijacked. Bangladesh’s status as a developing country would have been destroyed.

Sheikh Hasina said that BNP wanted to thwart the election knowing that Awami League would win the people’s vote. He said, along with that they added some lords. Movement as per their instructions. Still some people are jumping, they can do it, but Bangladesh Awami League is the people’s organization of this country, they have to remember this. Awami League did not emerge, nor did this organization come out of the pocket of the general who seized power illegally. It is the organization that grew out of the soil-man. People are the biggest strength of this organization.’

Regarding keeping the upazila elections open, Sheikh Hasina said, ‘How much work has been done for the common people in 15 years in power, those who could not do it will also be scrutinized. Through it. I will see who is accepted by the people.’

He said, ‘I don’t want any kind of conflict. (If there is a conflict) action will be taken against whoever is involved in it.’

Sheikh Hasina advised everyone to take initiative to reduce the price of goods and said, ‘Extortion and illegal hoarding should be stopped especially in the field of transportation or wholesale market, or hoarding. Extortion of goods in the wholesale market, extortion on the road must be stopped. You are here representatives of different areas, you have to pay attention here.’ He directed to pay attention to the farmers to get fair price.

Calling for economical use of electricity, the Prime Minister said, ‘We have to remember that we are giving electricity at half the price of the money we spend. So, from now on, the more electricity you use, the more you will have to pay. We are taking measures accordingly. And for those who absolutely cannot, there is a discount. But those who use extra electricity will have to pay extra.
