Vienna (OTS) ÖVP tourism spokesman Franz Hörl sees the statements in the current Court of Auditors’ report “Inventory of the shortage of skilled workers” as confirmation of political demands and the urgency of appropriate measures.

“The potential and weak points are known and are now confirmed once again in black and white. We urgently need more movement on the issue of higher employment participation of older people, access for workers from third countries and the reorganization of the seasonal employment solution,” said Hörl. He recently called for the assessment and release of seasonal worker quotas to be placed in the hands of the regional AMS offices. “They have the best database and knowledge of the local labor market needs. Instead of political haggling at the federal level every year, we should listen to the experts in the federal states,” says Hörl, who also calls for more contact with older people . “Practicable approaches such as tax attractiveness are needed here in order to make better use of existing know-how, to provide answers to demographic developments and at the same time to promote positive social effects,” explains Hörl.

Especially with a view to the next ten years, in which, according to the report, the availability of workers will continue to decline, the utmost urgency is required. “Sufficient supply of workers and skilled workers is a key question for the development of our location and our competitiveness. Inaction would be negligent with regard to the future of our country and the quality of life of our population,” said Hörl. (Ending)
