‘Argylle’ is leading the global box office but is showing little attraction in the Vietnamese market during Tet. After more than 4 days of premiere, the film earned 4.3 billion VND.
For Argy (Vietnamese title: Argylle super spy) is one of the films joining the 2024 Tet race. The project attracts attention when gathering famous actors such as Henry Cavill, Dua Lipa, John Cena or Samuel L. Jackson… However, the film’s revenue in the Vietnamese market is not as expected.
After more than 4 days of launch, For Argy just earned 4.3 billion VND in our country (as of noon February 14 – data from Box Office Vietnam). The work has low ticket sales, with a small number of screenings. The Hollywood spy movie sank on the box office chart, ranking behind two Vietnamese movies May, Meet my pregnant sister again along with many other names such as Family x Spy Code: White, Madame Web, Arena of many animals…
Released at the same time, May of Tran Thanh has now earned nearly 150 billion VND, Meet my pregnant sister again also earned 35 billion.
At the international box office, For Argy is the leading name. However, in the low market period, the film has currently earned just over 60 million USD. Meanwhile, with a production budget of up to 200 million USD, For Argy needs to earn at least $500 million to break even.
With a duration of 139 minutes, For Argy revolves around the story of writer Elly Conway, author of the famous spy novel series. Trouble strikes one day when a series of details and characters in her novel suddenly become reality.
The film has many bold and crazy scenes that make a strong visual impression. However, the minus point of For Argy lies in the rambling script. Overusing twists also makes the film chaotic. The famous cast was commented to be “only used for promotional purposes and to attract audiences to theaters”.
However, overall the film is still rich in entertainment elements, suitable for many audiences.
