The timely batting did not arrive in the final innings for the Algodoneros del Unión Laguna and that condemned them to fall yesterday against the Saraperos de Saltillo with a score of 7 runs to 5, in the duel for third place in the 2024 Coahuila Governor Cup. played at the Francisco I. Madero stadium, in the capital of Coahuila.
The Lagunero team left 7 runners on base during the last 3 innings and thus the opportunity to overcome the score was diluted, so the third place in this tournament went to the Saraperos, who, like the Algodoneros, experienced their penultimate preseason game. It was not a good week for Unión Laguna, who only won last Tuesday’s game against Saraperos themselves, but then they lost in Saltillo during the three games they played over the weekend, so the coaching staff surely made a thorough analysis to make decisions for the start of the campaign.
THE GAME
It was in the second inning when the Algodoneros made the first run of the game. Carlos Franco received a walk and advanced to third base with a single by Allen Córdoba to right field, finally scoring with a sacrifice fly by Julián Escobedo. The Saraperos responded in the bottom part of the same inning to the pitches of starter Jeremy Walker. Rainel Rosario hit a two-run home run to left field and with the bases loaded, Juniel Querecuto walked to produce the team’s third run.

In the third chapter, Rainel Rosario did damage again and with a single to the center he drove in Edwin Díaz with Saltillo’s fourth run, ending Walker’s work on the mound. Alejandro Gallegos relieved him and Fernando Villegas received him with an RBI double to left field. Arturo Rodríguez also produced a run with a sacrifice fly to center field, closing out the numbers for starter Guinda, who allowed 6 runs.
In the fourth inning Laguna responded, opening the offensive, Jonathan Schoop hit his first preseason home run all over center field and Aaron Alther joined the party by line-hitting the ball all over left field to make the score 3- 6.
In the fourth roll against the pitches of Thomas McIlraith, the Saraperos made another run with a single to center field by Henry Urrutia, which sent Williams Astudillo to the register. In the fifth roll, Dean Nevarez opened the Laguna offensive with a double, advanced to third with a ground ball by Edgar Robles and scored the fourth for the Algodoneros with a sacrifice fly by Adrián Tovalín. In the seventh inning, Julián Escobedo reached base with a triple and came home with an RBI hit by Nevarez to center, the score was 5-7.
The Algodoneros will return to Torreón and next Wednesday they will face their last preseason duel ahead of the 2024 LMB campaign. They will face the Caliente de Durango team at the Francisco Villa stadium.
