France’s ambassador to Armenia, Olivier Decotigny, visited Tavush marz. Of course, the ambassador’s visit had nothing to do with the situation in Kirantsi and Voskepar, with the well-known events that have been unfolding since April 19. In Ijevan, the ambassador discussed issues related to bilateral cooperation, in particular, partnership between different communities of Tavush marz and communities of France, and various projects.
Despite the fact that the ambassador’s visit was not directly related to the difficult situation created in the border villages of Tavush, two circumstances are noteworthy. The ambassador is visiting the region these days, in parallel with the current situation, when any mention of the name Tavush is immediately associated with that problem. At the same time, the visit of the French ambassador deserves attention against the background that from April 19 to today, April 22, France has not voiced an assessment of the famous Armenian-Azerbaijani agreement.
As is known, Germany welcomed, the US welcomed, the EU welcomed, Turkey welcomed, NATO welcomed, and here, at least for now, France has not given an assessment, and already that circumstance that has been “pressing” Paris for days. is to voice an assessment, it deserves attention and is quite telling, if later there is still a greeting or some other reaction. Against this backdrop, the French ambassador, in that sense, the first among foreign ambassadors working in Armenia, is leaving for Tavush region.
Thus, France is not among the welcomers, instead it is the first and so far the only among the ambassadors visiting Tavush. This at least allows us to conclude that what is happening for France contains at least a lot of questions, if not a very satisfying, satisfying agreement. Paris, being hardly satisfied with this, was slow to express its satisfaction and welcome regarding what is happening, even if it recalled its ambassador from Azerbaijan for consultation.
