TUXTLA GUTIÉRREZ, Chis. (apro).– Armed and hooded men kidnapped the president of the Altamirano council, María García, two of her collaborators and one other person in the municipal capital of Ocosingo, confirmed the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE).

The council president, Juan “N”, Adolfo “N”, and a person whose identity was unknown until now, were outside a restaurant located on the Ocosingo-San Cristóbal de las Casas highway, when they were approached by a group of people who allegedly belong to a social organization, and then took them to an unknown destination aboard two vehicles, the agency said.

After learning of the illegal deprivation of liberty of María García and the three other people, the organization Autonomous Peoples for the Protection of Chiapas Indigenous Peoples (PAPICH) blocked the entrances and exits to Altamirano, a town located in the Selva region.

The Prosecutor’s Office denied that elements of the investigative police were involved in the events, as was initially reported. He said that, when carrying out field forensics at the scene, a shell casing and the cell phone equipment of one of the victims were located.

He stated that the Indigenous Justice Prosecutor’s Office is carrying out the corresponding procedures to find the whereabouts of the victims and clarify the facts.

The agency added that the investigation will be sent to the Prosecutor’s Office Against the Forced Disappearance of Persons and those Committed by Individuals and the Anti-Kidnapping Prosecutor’s Office.
