Egypt – Commander of the Egyptian Navy, Ashraf Ibrahim Atwa, discussed yesterday, Thursday, with the Commander of the Indian Ocean and Red Sea Maritime Region of the French Navy, Emmanuel Sellars, ways to enhance cooperation and maritime stability in the region.
This came in a statement by the Egyptian army regarding the current visit of Selars and his accompanying delegation to Cairo, without details regarding its end date.
The statement said that the meeting discussed a number of issues of common interest regarding supporting maritime security and stability efforts in the region.
The meeting also discussed ways to enhance maritime cooperation between the two sides during the next stage.
Yesterday, Wednesday, 6 countries called on the Houthi group to stop its attacks in the Red Sea, considering that they “only serve to destabilize the region and harm the Yemeni people.”
This came in a statement issued by the embassies of the United States, Britain, Australia, Canada, Japan, and New Zealand in Yemen, which was published by the British embassy on the “X” platform on Wednesday.
Houthi repeated statements link the cessation of attacks on navigation in the Red Sea to ending the Israeli war on the Gaza Strip, which has been continuing for the sixth month in a row.
“In solidarity with Gaza,” which is facing a devastating Israeli war with American support, the Houthis target, with missiles and drones, Israeli cargo ships or those linked to them in the Red Sea, stressing their determination to continue their operations until the end of the war on the Strip.
Since the beginning of this year, the Washington-led coalition has launched raids that it says target “Houthi sites” in various regions of Yemen, in response to its attacks in the Red Sea, which was met with a response from the group from time to time.
With the intervention of Washington and London and the tensions taking a noticeable escalation last January, Al-Houthi announced that it now considered all American and British ships among its military targets.
