A terrible fire has occurred in a residential building in the eastern Chinese city of Nanjing. At least 15 people lost their lives in the accident on Friday (February 23). 44 people were injured. French news agency AFP reported.
Local authorities said in a press conference on Saturday that the fire broke out in the residential building on Friday morning. Preliminary investigation revealed that the fire started from the first floor of the building. And that’s where the electric motorcycle was kept.
Describing the physical condition of the injured, the authorities said that the condition of one of the injured is very serious. All of them were admitted to a local hospital.
Referring to the persistence of the fire, the authorities said that the fire broke out at 6 am. It took 2 pm to bring it under control.
Video footage circulating on Chinese social media shows a skyscraper on fire. Black smoke is coming out from there.
Then various pictures showed the terrible flames spreading to other floors of the building. The light was so intense that everything on the dark road was visible.
Expressing his condolences to the families of the victims, the mayor of the city, Chen Zhichang, said at a press conference that he apologized for the accident.
