President of FBCCI Mahbubul Alam has called upon the retail and wholesale sellers of this sector to be active in order to ensure that the prices of essential raw materials including pepper, potato, cucumber, brinjal remain normal and no dishonest person can create an artificial crisis.
He made this call by joining the meeting of FBCCI Standing Committee on Raw Materials, Marketing and Suppliers virtually on Sunday.
In the speech of the chief guest, FBCCI president said that the month of Ramadan is a holy month. Everyone should be careful that the supply and price of essential products and vegetables such as eggplant, pepper, potato, cucumber etc. should remain normal during this month. He urged the businessmen of this sector to play a more proactive role so that no one can create an artificial crisis by endangering the common people. The FBCCI president called upon the business leaders of this sector to maintain the supply of products.
Senior Vice President of FBCCI. Amin Helali said, about 22 million metric tons of vegetables are produced in the country every year. About 50 percent of which is wasted due to lack of proper storage. Accurate statistics and conservation measures are essential for the development of this situation. Besides, he demanded the authorities to take necessary measures to stop extortion at the ghats to control the supply and price of products.
Haji Abul Hashem, director in-charge of the committee, said that although ordinary consumers are always interested in raw materials, its importance increases when the month of Ramadan comes. Urging the common people not to put the common people in danger by unnecessarily raising the prices of the raw materials needed by the people, he said, necessary measures should be taken so that the people do not get an opportunity to speak badly about the raw material traders.
The meeting was chaired by the chairman of the committee and the president of the Bangladesh Raw Materials Owners Association. Emran. He said that it is important to ensure proper marketing system to keep the price under control or to avoid crisis in the market. To make the country’s marketing system more fair and modern, he demanded the formation of a delegation consisting of traders and formulation of fair policies. He also urged the media to come forward so that there is no shortage of products.
Participating in open discussions, the traders demanded an end to truck extortion to control the supply and price of raw materials. Besides, the businessmen said that the role of appropriate authorities to present correct information and statistics about the amount of crops and vegetables being produced in any district of the country.
Director of FBCCI Harun Or Rashid, Syed Mohammad Bakhtiar, Shahidul Haque Mollah, Amir Hossain Noorani, Tapan Kumar Majumdar, former director of FBCCI, co-chairman and members of the committee also addressed the meeting.
