Relatives of hostages held by the Palestinian radical movement Hamas since October 7 blocked Israel’s main Ayalon highway in Tel Aviv in the morning, demanding an agreement to exchange hostages with Palestinian prisoners and cancel the ground operation in Rafah. Two people were arrested in the area of the protest. One threw eggs at the protesters, the other refused to obey the police demand and leave the area.
On May 1, The Times of Israel, citing a source, reported that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, who arrived in Israel, that he is not going to stop military operations against the Hamas group and abandon the military operation in Rafah. Netanyahu also said he would not accept a proposed ceasefire in the Gaza Strip as one of the terms of a hostage deal with Hamas.
The US State Department then reported that Blinken and Netanyahu discussed efforts to achieve a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and prevent the conflict from expanding. Blinken noted that the position of Hamas hinders the establishment of a ceasefire.
