After his arrest on charges of corruption in Delhi Excise Policy (now cancelled), a video clip of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is going viral on different platforms of social media, in which he can be heard speaking on corruption. While sharing the video clip, it is being claimed that Kejriwal is allegedly admitting his involvement in corruption.

Vishvas News in its investigation found this claim to be fake and a propaganda against Kejriwal. The viral video is altered, which is being edited and shared out of its original context. What is viral?

Social media user ‘sanatan_he_sanatan’s profile picture’ went viral Video (archive Link) Has shared the clip, which has been liked by more than 26 thousand people. While sharing the video, it is being claimed that it is telling the reality of Kejriwal.

The viral video clip is of a few seconds, in which Kejriwal can be heard saying, “…..First we suck the poor people and then do charity on them…!”

It is clear that this video is an edited excerpt, which is being shared out of its original context. During elections, this is a common way of sharing incomplete clips of leaders’ speeches with the intention of spreading election propaganda. By reverse image searching the key frames of the viral video, we found a longer version of the video on the profiles of many other social media users, which makes the context of the viral clip clear.

X user ‘Abhijeet Deepke’ posted this video (archive) from his profile. Link) on March 24, 2024 and wrote, “Video of your early days. So what if changing the system is a long task? Someone will have to do it.”

In the video, Arvind Kejriwal can be heard saying, “…Why is the situation such that you have to do charity…First we suck the poor people and then donate on them…that of a thousand girls. We will get them married…if we increase their…their income, if…this system…which is sucking every person, if we…(the person sitting in front speaks)…if we think that If you want to increase their income then it becomes a long process… Then Kejriwal says..) I have a slightly different view on this… all the donations are devoted to Dakshina… no one wants to improve the system… this The work of arrangement is very difficult…as he said it is a long task…it is a long task but it has to be done. Someone will have to do it… leave the work of charity to the donors… they are doing a good job… however much you donate… I am not with you there… you do that separately… where fighting, cutting, If you want to die, I’m standing there with you. Ok!”

We contacted Abhijeet Deepke regarding the viral video clip. Deepke is a former media advisor to Manish Sisodia and is currently a member of AAP. He told Vishvas News, “This video is from the Kaushambi office of the early days of the Aam Aadmi Party, where Kejriwal was talking to some people.” He also shared the original video of this clip with us and said, “This is part of the film ‘An Insignificant Man’ made on Kejriwal.
