Ester Nurumi Tri Wardoyo admitted that he was nervous when he decided Indonesia’s victory over Thailand in the quarter-finals Uber Cup 2024. However, he also has the motivation to be the hero of Indonesia’s victory in that match.
Ester played in the third match against Supanida Katethong at the Hi-Tech Zone Sports Center Gymnasium, Chengdu, China, Friday (3/5/2024). In the third match, he overcame Katethong dramatically with a score of 19-21, 21-19 and 21-19.
This victory was surprising because Katethong was more favored and head to head they lost 0-3. However, Ester didn’t want to just give up.
The reason is that mentally, Ester has an advantage because Indonesia has a 2-0 lead over Thailand. The 19 year old player also admitted that he was nervous but had strong motivation to win the match.
“Thank God, I am very happy to be able to win and be the deciding factor for the Uber Indonesia team to advance to the semifinals. Entering the field, it was tense, but because the team was already winning 2-0, it wasn’t a burden for me but a motivation so that I could play more calmly and better,” said Ester in a PBSI press statement, Friday (3/5/2024).
Ester admitted that she was also trying her best to conquer Katethong. Because, in the previous three matches, he had never won and had the ambition to break eggs.
“My previous opponent, Katethong, lost 0-3, but I tried to play optimally, not remembering yesterday’s results. In his game, he is an attacking type, I tried to accommodate his speed but also with patience, not in a hurry,” added Ester.
Ester also ensured that Indonesia qualified for the semifinals after winning with a score of 3-0. Previous wins were presented by Gregoria Mariska Tunjung and Apriyani Rahayu/Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti.
