The Uber Cup Indonesia team succeeded in making brilliant achievements at the event Uber Cup 2024 by overthrowing Thailand with a landslide score of 3-0 at the Hi-Tech Zone Sports Center Gymnasium, Chengdu, Friday (3/5/2024) morning WIB. This victory led the Garuda squad to the semifinals of this prestigious women’s badminton tournament.
Competing with the best composition, Indonesia immediately opened up the lead through a brilliant performance in the women’s singles by Gregoria Mariska Tunjung. Gregoria successfully beat Thailand’s top seed, Ratchanok Intanon, with a score of 22-20 and 21-18.
Women’s doubles Apriyani Rahayu/Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti then extended Indonesia’s lead. Apriyani/Fadia beat Jongkolphan Kititharakul/Rawinda Prajongjai with a score of 21-17 and 21-14.
Indonesia’s second women’s singles player, Ester Nurumi Tri Wardoyo, was tasked with securing a ticket to the semifinals. Ester faced Supanida Katethong and had to fight in three games. Ester was left behind in the first game with a score of 19-21, but recovered in the second game with a score of 21-19. In the deciding game, Ester showed a winning mentality and secured victory with a score of 21-19.
This victory is a brilliant result for the Uber Cup Indonesia team. Gregoria, Apriyani/Fadia, and Ester showed extraordinary performance and deserve appreciation. Indonesia will next meet South Korea in the semifinals on Saturday, May 4 2024.
