MEXICO CITY (apro).- Due to the high temperatures recorded in Mexico City, the local Judiciary resumed the measures implemented during the Covid-19 pandemic in the family court building where the air conditioning has been faulty since the year 2022.

The Judiciary of Mexico City (PJCDMX) reported that yesterday the Judiciary Council issued agreement V-28/2024 with which it determined that as of April 22, the courts located in the “Clementina Gil de Lester” building located at Avenida Juárez number 8, Colonia Centro, they will work with the open door and closed door scheme, as occurred in the pandemic.

Consequently, this Monday the courts with an odd number ending will work behind closed doors and those with an even number ending will work behind closed doors and so on.

He also urged lawyers and users to favor the submission of documents electronically and only one person can enter to review the files, so he also invited attendees to reduce consultation time to a minimum.

“On days when the activities are carried out behind closed doors, the jurisdictional bodies will be dedicated to carrying out judicial work, without attention to the public, except for previously scheduled hearings, the delivery of deposit tickets, as well as attention to food appearances. and any other exceptional case that, in the opinion of the owner, is considered necessary so as not to irreparably affect the defense of the parties, taking into account the best interest of the girls, boys and adolescents, due to gender violence or when one of the parties find themselves in vulnerable conditions,” he said.

Only interested parties accompanied by a legal representative may attend hearings.

This is not the first time that the PJCDMX resumes these restrictions imposed during the pandemic, since on June 14, 2022 it implemented the return to the open door and closed door scheme in the Avenida Juárez building because its air conditioning system did not work. served and since then there have been constant complaints on social media about the high temperatures recorded in family courts.

On this occasion, the measures will remain in force until further notice.

The schedule of Civil and Family Courts of First Instance that can receive requests for alimony or other requests provided for in the general and local laws on Women’s Access to a Life Free of Violence will not change.

However, the procedural terms and deadlines will be suspended in the family courts of written and oral proceedings exclusively on the days when they have to work behind closed doors.

When a court works behind closed doors, it will not receive promotions unless they are related to the hearings scheduled for that day and before the start of the hearings.

For this reason, the Common Parties Office of the venue will receive all other letters addressed to those courts that work behind closed doors.

The 17 floors of the “Clementina Gil de Lester” building not only house the more than 40 family courts that operate in CDMX but also house the local Public Defender’s Office, the public ministry office and the System for the Comprehensive Development of the Family (DIF).

Therefore, in the agreement of the Judiciary Council, they were invited to try to serve the public by telephone, remotely or through an appointment system, including attention to people who come for the first time.

To do this, people must attend without companions, despite the fact that DIF and the Ombudsman serve hundreds of women daily who come to request alimony accompanied by their children, whom they often have no one to leave with.
