The man who kicked off the New Year’s Eve excitement on Avenida Paulista on the last Sunday of the year was DJ Cranmarry, with a mix of world hits combined with doses of grunge and soul. Soon after Zezé Di Camargo arrived with a repertoire full of country classics.

And a surprise stole the show at least for a few minutes, a marriage proposal on stage, in front of the crowd gathered in the most famous avenue of the capital.

Resident in Taubaté, in the hinterland of São Paulo, André took advantage of the party to propose. The bride Andressa, from Macapá, said yes, to the delight of the groom and the crowd watching the scene.

“I’m still excited, shocked, scared. I didn’t imagine… 2024 will be happy!”, she said in an interview with TV Globo.

Gospel music was also present at the party, with Ton Carfi and Paloma Possi. Then Claudia Leitte “transformed” the stage into a kind of electric trio and gave fans a taste of the off-season carnival.

Set up between Haddock Lobo and Bela Cintra streets, the 8 meter high and 16 meter wide stage will also host big names in Brazilian music. The countdown to 2024 will take place to the sound of “Evidências,” by country duo Chitãozinho and Xororó, considered by many to be Brazil’s informal national anthem.

New Year’s Eve on Avenida Paulista will kick off the celebrations for the city’s 470th anniversary. The stage references iconic places in the city, such as Estação da Luz, Catedral da Sé and Ponte Estaiada.

According to the city hall, security forces have been strengthened. In total, there will be 630 police officers and 46 vehicles from the Metropolitan Area Policing Command 1 (CPA/M), the Special Actions Battalion (Baep) and the motorized police, as well as 350 GCMs, with 81 vehicles, 22 motorcycles, 4 Bases Furniture and the presence of 700 private security guards. The property will be removed from the address from the 1st.

Transport operation

• The total closure of Avenida Paulista between Teixeira da Silva and Consolação streets took place starting from 8pm on Saturday (30th);
• The release will only take place at 6 am on Monday (1). CET teams will be on site to direct traffic and direct drivers;

• Due to the holiday, some subway stations will carry out special operations;
• The Paraíso, Brigadeiro, Trianon-Masp stations and all the 2-Green Line will be open for boarding and disembarking all night;
• The other Metro stops, on the 1-Blue, 3-Red and 15-Silver Lines, will remain open for boarding and disembarking until 2am on day 1. and, subsequently, they will only operate for the disembarkation of passengers;
• A Consolação station on the 2-Green linethe closest stop to the New Year’s Eve celebrations, will close for boarding at 4pm on Sunday (31st) and reopen at 4.40am on Monday (1)with direct disembarkation at Paulista station, which can be accessed for free and through the station itself.

• On Sunday buses will have zero fareand 48 lines will undergo route changes from 12:00 on Sunday (31) until 6:00 on Monday (1);
