The former president of the United States and Republican candidate, Donald Trump, starred this Wednesday in an intense day of campaigning in Wisconsin and Michigan, two key states that he hopes to take from his rival, Democratic President Joe Biden, next November, taking advantage of a pause in his trial. from New York.

The Republican gave a speech to his followers in Waukesha, on the outskirts of Milwaukee (Wisconsin), and then did the same in Freeland (Michigan), in an attempt to mobilize the white vote in the manufacturing areas of the Midwest of the country.

Trump has repeatedly complained that the trial against him for allegedly falsifying business records to buy the silence of porn actress Stormy Daniels in 2016 is keeping him away from the electoral campaign for the November 5 elections.

For this reason, he did not waste his opportunity to attack Biden today at two campaign events, whom he described as “the worst president in history” for inflation and for having allowed an “invasion” of migrants on the southern border.

A day after announcing in an interview with Time magazine that he plans to use the Army to arrest undocumented immigrants, Trump promised the largest deportation the country has ever seen.

“Allowing the entry through the southern border of millions and millions of people, many of them very bad, is not sustainable. They are going to destroy the country. We are going to carry out the largest deportation in history. We have no other option,” he said.

University protests and abortion restrictions

He also assured that crime has skyrocketed under Biden’s mandate, although he praised the work of the police officers and took the opportunity to congratulate the New York officers who on Tuesday cleared the protest of pro-Palestinian students at Columbia University.

“The police arrived and in two hours everything was over. It was beautiful to see,” said the Republican, who said that Biden has been missing while the protests at universities spread.

Their appearances coincided with the entry into force today in Florida of a law that restricts abortion to six weeks of gestation, when many women are not yet pregnant.

Trump took credit for the fact that the Supreme Court, with three of its nine judges appointed by him, overturned in 2022 the ruling that protected abortion at the federal level and defended that each state should have its own legislation.

Some of his followers asked him for a total ban on abortion, but the Republican, who fears that being too radical on this issue could cost him the elections, reminded them that the most important thing is to “win the elections.”

In fact, Democrats want the campaign to revolve around reproductive rights and this Wednesday Vice President Kamala Harris traveled to Florida to accuse Trump of wanting to ban abortion throughout the country if he returns to the White House.

Two key states to win the elections

The campaign events in Wisconsin and Michigan, Trump’s first after several days locked up in a New York court, also served him to denounce once again without evidence the “witch hunt” that he claims to suffer from the Government.

“I was accused of nothing, I didn’t do anything wrong. Then they accused me again, and again, and again (…) But the polls are going better than ever,” he mocked.

According to the latest polls, Trump leads voting intentions nationwide, but the Electoral College system used to elect the president makes some undecided states key to tipping the balance.

The Rust Belt region, which includes Wisconsin and Michigan, is a key industrial zone, as Trump swept there in 2016, but Biden managed to turn it around in 2020.

Biden has the electoral support of the powerful UAW motor union, very influential in the area, and Trump did not miss the opportunity to warn that if the current president is re-elected, all vehicles in the United States will end up being “made in China.”
