Crisis breaks out in the National Electoral Institute due to foreign votes

In the midst of complaints, counselors yesterday endorsed that the National Electoral Institute (INE) allows more than 20 thousand Mexicans who submitted incomplete data in their registration to vote from abroad, as well as clarifying irregularities in another 18 thousand cases.

The councilors criticized the Directorate of the Federal Voter Registry for not detecting, in the first filter, “minor inconsistencies”, in addition to reproaching it for making decisions without consulting them, causing damage to the image of the Institute and the neatness of the Electoral Registry.

During a prolonged meeting of the Voting Commission for Residents Abroad, they demanded the director of the area, Alejandro Sosa, report how they made decisions such as sending an automated email, which provoked widespread complaints from voters.

“Why were these types of issues not detected in that first review? I am concerned about the image we are giving to the outside world,” said counselor Carla Humphrey.

He claimed that citizens have not been contacted again to inform them how their process is going.

This is because 11 days have passed since they sent a general email to 39 thousand citizens with the inadmissibility of their voting request, and the uncertainty prevails among those who did carry out the process in good faith, without altering documents.

INE officials argued that no flaws were detected in the individual review, but in the group review they were.

Given the barrage of complaints, the president of the INE, Guadalupe Taddei, had to intervene in the Commission meeting to defend the proposal to reintegrate 20 thousand citizens and analyze more incorporations.
