Honor, a Chinese phone brand, has just introduced technology that allows users to control cars with eye movements on smartphones at the MWC 2024 event taking place in Barcelona.

Also at MWC 2024 (Mobile World Exhibition) taking place in Barcelona (Spain), Honor launched the Magic 6 Pro smartphone model for the international market.

Here, Honor demonstrated eye movement control technology on Magic 6 Pro. The phone uses the front camera, combined with artificial intelligence (AI) to determine where the user’s eyes are looking.

One of the applications is car control, illustrated with four command buttons: Start the engine, turn off the engine, move forward and reverse the car. In the video, a person looks at one of four buttons and the car moves forward.

There is currently no information on whether this feature will appear with an official car manufacturer, but Honor is introducing the technology on smartphones to compete with other AI phones.

Honor is actually a subsidiary of Huawei, which was sold in 2020 to comply with sanctions from the US. Since then, this brand has launched many products, including flip phones targeting the high-end segment. In China, Honor is the 4th brand in terms of market share, but is not well known globally.

One of the features that will be available on the international version of Magic 6 Pro is the ability to open applications just by looking at the screen. When the notification appears at the top of the screen, users can open the app by directing their eyes to the exact location.

Besides, not out of the AI trend that is the focus of MWC, the Chinese company also introduced a concept chatbot, developed based on Meta’s Llama2 model. The demonstration video shows the chatbot giving users suggestions on activities they can participate in while in Barcelona and even composing a poem about MWC.
