Colombian President Gustavo Petro has announced the severance of diplomatic relations with Israel, accusing its government of “genocide” against the Palestinians. The Russian service of Deutsche Welle writes about it.
According to the publication, in his speech on International Labor Day in Bogota, Petro stated that if the Palestinian people are destroyed, all humanity will also be destroyed.
He added that relations with Israel will be severed on May 2.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Colombia announced that the diplomatic personnel will return to their homeland due to Israel’s military operations in the Gaza Strip. Colombian citizens in Israel and Palestine will receive the relevant services from the consular section in Tel Aviv.
The Israeli authorities have strongly condemned the statements of the Colombian president. Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz called Gustavo Petro an “anti-Semite” who promised to “reward the murderers and rapists of Hamas.”
