VFF and coach Kim Sang Sik reached a consensus to sign a 2-year contract to lead Vietnamese football from May 1, 2024 to March 31, 2026.
According to the latest announcement of the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF), after a period of research, reviewing documents as well as contacting candidates, coach Kim Sang Sik was the last person selected to take over the position. captains of the Vietnamese national teams after parting ways with Mr. Troussier.
Also according to the announcement, VFF and the new Korean captain have a high consensus on the general development strategy for Vietnamese football and decided to sign a 2-year contract.

The first task of the Korean head coach is to lead the Vietnam National Team to participate in the remaining two matches within the framework of the second qualifying round of FIFA World Cup 2026.
Besides, it is participating in the third qualifying round of the 2027 Asian Cup scheduled to start in March 2025.
At the regional level, coach Kim will gather at FIFA Days in September, October and November 2024 to prepare to participate in the Southeast Asia – ASEAN Mitsubishi Electric Cup 2024 championship, taking place from November 23 to 2024. December 21, 2024.
For U23 Vietnam, the Korean coach will lead the home team to participate in the 2026 U23 Asian Qualifier scheduled to take place in September 2025 and followed by SEA Games 33 taking place in Thailand in December 2025.

– Born on December 17, 1976
– Was a Korean national team player who participated in the 2006 World Cup, won third place in the 2000 and 2007 Asian Cups.
– Degree: Professional football coach (Pro)-AFC/KFA.
– Professional coaching career:
* From 2013 to 2020: Assistant head coach of Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors Club in KLeague 1.
During this period, Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors Club won a total of 6 K-League 1 championships, won the runner-up position once, won the National Cup once and won the AFC Champions League once.
* In 2021: Mr. Kim Sang Sik takes on the position of head coach of Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors Club and soon makes an impression by helping this club win the K-League 1-2021 title and win the 2022 Korean National Cup.
