Every woman who becomes a celebrity has to deal with many inappropriate comments about her appearance. In the case of singer Celeste Buckingham it even escalated into eating disorders, which she suffered from in order to maintain her ideal, slim figure. And as soon as she managed to overcome these problems, the most unflattering comments appeared in the media about the fact that she has extra pounds… After being cured of anorexia nervosa, she now suffers from another mental illness, dysmorphophobia – which is a belief in her imperfection and ugliness.

“I had the feeling that the whole nation went after me. Thousands of strangers, whom I have never met in my life, dug into me, read those articles and left those comments. Even my friends, they probably wanted to be nice, so they started giving me advice on how I should lose weight.” she described difficult moments. “Even my boyfriend at the time told me that he didn’t like me anymore because I gained weight. It totally broke me… I spent years recovering from it. During that period, the friend and everyone around me convinced me that I’m probably ugly if everyone says so…”

She has completely withdrawn from the world of show business and currently lives in Madeira, where her parents also live. “I understood that in the market where I am, my value will be based not on how well I sing the concert, but on how I look while doing it. And that’s when I stopped enjoying it, I didn’t want to do it anymore,” she explained. After all, she herself discovered that when she was a size 36, she had the most job opportunities, as companies did not establish so many collaborations with those who are described as being different in some way, perhaps just outside the standards of beauty.

A part of the interview, which appeared on Instagram, affected both her fans and colleagues from the art industry. “Aaah, this is absolutely breaking my heart. People don’t understand what they are doing with this online bullying and toxicity. The comments and insults I sometimes read… I can’t stand staring. I’m sorry. You are beautiful, amazing and mega talented, I am sending strength,” the actress Hana Vagnerová, for example, sent her a message (41), who went through anorexia herself. And singer Tereza Mašková (28), who is currently struggling with bulimia, sent her a number of hearts as part of expressing her support…
