Almost every heavy metal fan knows the summer metal open air festival. For many, it’s something like a big metal holiday. It is an event that is internationally known and recognized throughout Europe. At least 130 bands will play for more than 25,000 fans from all over the world. In total, they will be spread over 5 stages in four days.

This year’s 26th edition takes place again in the Josefov military fortress near Jaroměř. This unique and mysterious environment exactly matches the atmosphere that the festival needs. The entire area has excellent acoustics and is very large. It is not a problem to organize a summer event here even if it rains all weekend. The interior spaces will provide enough seats for all visitors.

The dark atmosphere of the festival will be colored by the black color present everywhere, blazing fires, live concerts and the metal fans themselves. The organizers have prepared a large chill-out zone, art galleries, a horror cinema, gastro corners, the possibility of tours of the underground catacombs and many other activities and stands.

The program of this year’s festival will be really packed. Among the performers are some regulars, but you can also look forward to bands that have never performed here before.

85% of the approached metal stars have already confirmed their participation. These are, for example, Anthrax, Archspire, Be’lakor, Beartooth, Benediction, Biohazard, Borknagar, Concrete Winds, Crowbar, Deicide, Dismember, Dying Fetus, Fit For An Autopsy, Gatecreeper, Hypocrisy, I Am Morbid, In Flames, Marduk , Misþyrming, Napalm Death, Nile, Nordjevel, Omnium Gatherum, Sacramentum, Sepultura, Signs Of The Swarm, Solothus, Spectral Wound, Suicidal Angels, Terror, Trivium, Within Destruction, Wolfheart.

Transportation to the Brutal Assault 2023 festival

I own a car

If you go to the festival by car, you can purchase a parking space in advance in the guarded festival parking lot. It is also possible to park directly in the city. But don’t expect any exceptional traffic restrictions or specially created parking spaces here. It is necessary to follow all signs and road traffic rules.

From Prague the trip will take you about 1.5 hours. You will drive along the D11 highway as far as Semonice, where you will turn onto road number 33. Further, the route to the festival will be clearly marked.

If you go from České Budějovice, you can drive towards Prague on the D3 highway and in Senohrabů take the D1 highway. You will connect to the D11 highway via the city ring road and continue according to the instructions above. The whole trip will take you around 3 hours. If you want to avoid Prague, get off the D3 at Planá nad Lužnicí or Bystřice. You continue along both roads to the village of Nechyba and here on the same route along road number 125 through Kolín. At Exit 50 you connect to the D11 highway. These two routes will also take you three hours.

Liberec metal fans will spend 1.5 hours on the way. The fastest route is on road number 35, after Jinolice turn onto road number 2867. You will drive through Železnice, Choteč, Tetín, Milotín, Vilantice and Velichovky to Josefov.

It will take you 2.5 hours to travel from Brno. The easiest way is to take the D1 highway in the direction of Prague. At Exit 141 in the direction of Žďár nad Sázavou, take road number 354, at Ostrova nad Oslavou, take road number 37. Next, at Opatovice nad Labem, join road number 35 and in Libišan, the D11 highway.

By bus

Who will go to Josefov for metal from Prague, can use two direct connections a day – at eight in the morning and before five in the afternoon, the journey takes 1.5. For other connections, you have to change at least once (Hradec Králové, Dvůr Králové nad Labem, Libřice or Králova Lhota) and you will spend a total of 2-4 hours on the bus.

From České Budějovice it is necessary to arrive in Prague first. This service runs every 2-3 hours. Next, you can get on any bus as mentioned above. But in total, the journey will take you at least 6 hours and you have to change trains several times.

Buses from Liberec drives very irregularly. You will change several times along the way, mostly in Jičín and Hradec Králové. You will spend 3-3.5 hours on the bus.

There is a bus about every two hours from Brno. In most cases, you will go to Hradec Králové and change to another line here. The journey takes 3.5-4 hours.

By train

Prague is approximately 130 km from Jaroměř. You can use the direct train connection 6 times a day and the journey will take approximately 2 hours. Other options are connections where you change in Pardubice or Hradec Králové. This variant is also 2 hours long.

For direct connection from České Budějovice unfortunately you won’t come across. You almost always have to drive to Prague and from there on as explained above. Be prepared to be on the road for 4.5-5 hours.

Liberec metal fans only need 2 hours to get to Jaroměř. In Liberec, they board a direct train that runs several times a day, and they don’t have to worry about anything else.

From Brno there is a train that takes you to Pardubice every two hours. Here, after a few minutes, you will board another train line and you will be in Jaroměř in a total of 3 hours. You can also choose from other connections. In this case, however, expect more transfers and a journey of up to 4 hours.

Accommodation at the Brutal Assault 2023 festival

Several types of accommodation are selected directly on the festival’s website. Here you will find the cheapest tent option, hostels, but also several star hotels. The offered accommodation can be 15 km or more from the festival grounds. All prices therefore also include regular shuttle transport to the festival. But choose your accommodation from this offer as soon as possible – free capacities fill up quickly.

If you do not choose accommodation on the festival website, you will have to look for accommodation elsewhere. In the surrounding villages, you can find accommodation for 3 nights at a price of around 6,000 – 15,000 CZK for two people. Česká Skalice, Hořičky, Bílá Třemešná, Dobruška, Nové Město nad Metují or Hradec Králové are located within 20 km.
