Jhenaidah’s Kaliganj Upazila BNP held an iftar party ignoring police obstacles. However, Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, office secretary of the party, strongly condemned the obstruction.
On Saturday (March 30), BNP organized an iftar mahfil at Naldanga road in the upazila city. All activities were at the last stage by the organizers. Before that, the police of Kaliganj police station reached the spot and ordered the closure of the mahfil. Additional police were deployed at the intersection. However, more than three hundred leaders and activists took a stand there, ignoring the police’s obstruction. After that, the police did not allow any activists to enter there again. In the end, BNP leaders and activists had Iftar there.
Khulna Divisional BNP Organizing Secretary Anind Islam Amit, Jhenaidah District BNP President MA Majeed, Khulna Divisional Co-Organizing Secretary Jayant Kuman Kundu, Central DAB Leader Ibrahim Rahman Babu, Central Volunteers Dal Senior Joint General Secretary Saiful attended the Iftar Mahfil as chief guests. Islam Feroz, Upazila BNP Senior Joint Convener Hamidul Islam Hamid and district leaders and activists.
In the afternoon, BNP office secretary Ruhul Kabir Rizvi strongly condemned the incident in a video message and said to the journalists that the police had created panic with their presence there. The police force of the current dummy government prevented Iftar Mahfil, Dua ceremonies. Police have been deployed at every corner of the city. So that activists cannot attend there. They have once again proved that the current government is a dictatorial government by blocking religious programs.
However, the police claimed that no permission was taken from the police to organize the Iftar party. As a result, the mahfil has been stopped due to the fear of deterioration of the law and order situation. Although the responsible leaders of BNP say, we applied for permission to the special branch of the district police a week before organizing the mahfil.
Saiful Islam Feroz, Senior Joint General Secretary of the Central Volunteers Party and Hamidul Islam Hamid, Senior Joint Convener of Upazila BNP, said, “We applied for permission to the special branch of the district police a week before organizing the mahfil.” But no reply was given by the police. Our scheduled day, Saturday, was almost at its final stage. Then the police of Kaliganj police station came and closed it.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kaliganj police station Abu Azif said that if any party is organized on a large scale, the permission of the Deputy Commissioner and the Superintendent of Police must be taken. But they did not take any permission. Without taking permission they organized in open place with about three thousand people. Due to which their program has been stopped.
