Among the three largest Czech music festivals is Metronome Prague, which will host stars such as the electronic duo Underworld and the ageless singer and guitarist Beck from June 23 to 25 at the Exhibition Center in Holešovice. Australian singer Nick Cave, who coped with the death of his son Arthur seven years ago, will also visit Prague. His second son of four, Jethro, also died recently. “The first death of his son in 2015 influenced Nick Cave quite strongly musically, so I’m quite curious to see if it will be reflected musically this year as well,” columnist Václav Hnátek did not hide his interest.

The Rock for People festival attracts visitors to Hradec Králové from June 15 to 18 to see pop-punk legends Green Day, who were supposed to go on tour together with Fall Out Boy and Weezer, but the coronavirus canceled the plans. However, the organizers managed to keep this attractive trio in Hradec. “They’re not exactly the stars of today, but I don’t think anyone’s offended“, Hnátek says to Green Day.

The third largest Czech festival Colors of Ostrava will open its doors in Vítkovice from July 13 to 16. Twenty one pilots, the famous DJ Martin Garrix or the rocker with a beautiful voice LP will come to the multi-genre event. The biggest star is undoubtedly the American The Killers. According to Václav Hnátek, Czech festivals have moved to working days and, thanks to this, have a better chance of competing with large European festivals. “If famous bands were to play on Saturday at a smaller festival in the Czech Republic, even if for more money, they will still go to, for example, Germany, where it is more prestigious for them and they will play for a hundred thousand people,” explains why big bands used to and performers avoided festivals in the Czech Republic, and how promoters have matured into them since about 2017.

Columnist and podcaster Václav Hnátek revealed in Blesk Podcast what other festival names not to be missed, where to go abroad for the festival and what solo concerts await us over the summer:
